Product Detail

Field Fence — Hinge Joint & Ring Lock

High-tensile, hot-dipped galvanized field fence in two knot types — Hinge Joint for flexible rural runs and Ring Lock for high-pressure stock & exclusion fencing. Built for Australia & New Zealand.

Two Knot Types

Choose the Right Knot for Your Fence Line

Both are high-tensile, hot-dip galvanised field fence — the difference is in how the horizontal and vertical wires lock together.

Hinge Joint

Hinge Joint Fence

The wire wraps around the vertical (stay) wire, creating a flexible, springy joint that absorbs impact and springs back.

  • Best for cattle, sheep, mixed livestock
  • Ideal for hilly / undulating country
  • General-purpose rural fencing
Ring Lock

Ring Lock Fence

Horizontal wires are crimped and locked to verticals with a separate ring knot — holds its shape firmly under heavy, sustained pressure.

  • Best for high-pressure stock & exclusion fencing
  • Ideal for flatter terrain / straight runs
  • Boundary & deer / kangaroo exclusion

Applications

Where It Works

Field fence on cattle farm

Cattle & Sheep Farms

Hinge-joint knot absorbs animal impact without breaking. Ideal for livestock paddocks and rotational grazing.

Rural boundary fencing

Rural Boundaries

Clear property lines with a fence that handles Australian weather — UV, rain, wind and temperature swings.

Vineyard and orchard fencing

Vineyards & Orchards

Keeps wildlife out while maintaining an open, clean look. Available in low-profile heights for vine protection.

Installation Guide

How to Install Field Fence

1

Set Corner & End Posts

Install heavy-duty end posts (≥100 mm diameter) at corners and terminations. Brace each end post with a diagonal stay and horizontal rail for tension resistance.

2

Drive Line Posts

Space intermediate Y posts or timber posts at 3–5 m intervals. Drive to a uniform depth (typically 600 mm) using a post driver.

3

Unroll & Tie Off

Unroll the field fence along the fence line starting from an end post. Tie the first line wire to the end post with hog rings or tie wire at every horizontal wire.

4

Tension & Secure

Use a wire strainer or come-along to tension the fence evenly. Attach to line posts with staples or clips. Avoid over-tensioning — the hinge joint needs room to flex.

Pro Tip

For uneven terrain, follow the ground contour rather than stretching the fence level. The hinge-joint design naturally absorbs undulation without losing tension.

Matching Accessories

Recommended for a Complete Setup

Field fence works best with the right posts and tensioning. Here's what we recommend bundling.

Y Post / Star Picket

Standard line post for field fence. Available in 1.58 / 1.86 / 2.04 kg/m, lengths from 0.45 to 2.4 m.
